The groundwork for the Cochrane Behavioral Medicine Field was conducted by the Evidence-based Behavioral Medicine Committee (see list of past and present members here) of the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM). This committee work was funded over four years by contract # NLM 00-158/LTN from the Office of Behavioral Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA. We thank all of the committee members for their endless and tireless effort on this project.
To propose a Cochrane Field, it is necessary to hold a Formal Exploratory Meeting including participants from various nations. Separate additional funds from the National Cancer Institute of NIH and OBSSR made the Formal Exploratory Meeting in Mainz, Germany on 8/25/04 possible (OBSSR CONTRACT REQ # 040157). The ad hoc international group of behavioral medicine scholars from this meeting recommended that behavioral medicine join The Cochrane Collaboration as a Cochrane Behavioral Medicine Field.
Current Field activities (e.g., registering the Behavioral Medicine Field, developing this website) are supported with the assistance of personnel affiliated with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of NIH and a related NHLBI grant (#HC25197) to disseminate information about behavioral medicine trials to researchers and scholars.
We're also grateful to the following societies and associations that supported our registration of this Field:
